Big Adventures in Wytheville

I am definitely ready for the weekend - in fact, I couldn't be more ready. I was really hoping to have the day off from school since apparently I live at the North Pole now. It was -2 at our house this morning when I got out of bed and had only warmed up to 7 by the time I left for school at 9:30. Luckily we were on a two-hour delay so that made my morning slightly more tolerable! Now, don't get me wrong - I know that people in Michigan and other places are and have experienced MUCH colder weather but gosh - I haven't experienced this since probably my Banner Elk days and rarely even then!! We brought the bunnies in last night and they are 'house rabbits' until it warms up enough to put them back outside. The horses don't seem to be minding the cold though - they are woolly by this time of the year!

Ok, so now let me tell my exciting news-worthy story for the evening. I stayed at school a little longer than normal this afternoon trying to get things semi-ready for Monday morning and had to swing by the bank and then to get groceries. I always just go through the drive-thru and ESPECIALLY in the cold today. While I was sitting waiting for my checks to be cashed, I notice a police officer standing at the corner of the back and oh-my-God-what-is-he-holding? HIS GUN! I sit slightly puzzled at this for awhile, still waiting for my cash, wondering why there is an armed officer at the corner of the bank. So I get my money and of course, like every other curious person would have done, I decide to check out what is going on at the front of the bank since that is the way he 'edged' himself.

Well - enter a scene of chaos! There are cop cars pulled up every-which-way at the front with lights going and right as I am sitting at the traffic light in front of the bank another officer walks out of the bank carrying a SHOT GUN! Yipes!! Of course the light changes to green at this time and I dumbfoundly drive off to the grocery store thinking the ONLY possible thing that could be going on is there was a robbery WHILE I WAS RIGHT THERE!

Sure enough, that's what was going on. You can keep up with the story at our newspaper website as I have been - www.wythenews.com Apparently they didn't catch the guy that did it even though they got there 'supposedly' one minute after the alarm was tripped. Wytheville has been the source for several robberies in the past few months - I guess attributed to the economy and it doesn't hurt that we are at the direct intersection of two interstates and tend to attract the crazies I guess.

So, the moral of this story is, I think we'll stay in tonight...Tomorrow and Sunday we are going to try to be adventurous and register for baby supplies - oh yeah, that should be interesting! There is nothing more enjoyable than trying to convince my husband what baby gadgets we will need :)

Good Grief - you were almost a witness!!!! I still can't believe you were driving through with all of this happening!!!!! Lock your doors and pull the shades - LOL

AND, you had better think twice about Sunday since they are calling for nasty, snowy weather.

Love, Mom (who else would say such things)
