I got real domestic over the weekend and tried my hand at making bread. I just got a WONDERFUL Kitchenaide mixer and have used every possible excuse to use it (I almost used it to make meatballs last night to mix the ingredients but felt like that was going a little too far).
So anyway, I made Honey Oatmeal Bread and it turned out FABULOUS! I have never, ever made bread before - not yeast bread anyway, but figured - hey, how hard can it possibly be? Not very is the answer! It was so easy with the help from the mixer. It has a bread hook so I virtually had to just pour in the ingredients in the correct order and it did the rest - mixing, kneading, etc. I couldn't believe it! After mixing it had to rise for an hour then divide into loaves and pans and rise for another hour (actually it rose for about 2 hours the second time because we snuck off to the antique mall for a little bit) and pop it in the oven!
Vola! We have bread - isn't it pretty? A good job for my first loaf of bread if I do say so (actually there are two loaves and the other one didn't come out of it's pan...at all...so it got a little butchered. Live and learn)
By the way, it was sooo good! It's very dense and sweet because of the honey. I will definitely make this again!

Hi Ashley. This is your Mom's cousin Nancy in Texas. Been trying to catch up on what's happening in your Mom's life and saw your link. Congratulations on the coming attraction. I voted boy. My granddaughter in Clarksville called the other morning on the way to the doctor for her sonogram and asked me to vote. I said a girl. She called back a couple of hours later and confirmed that it's a girl. So I have a pretty good track record right now of predictions. Well, truthfully, it will be exactly what it is supposed to be. Merry Christmas to all of you. And Hi to Mom.
Love, Nancy
Yummmmm - that loaf of bread looks fabulous - of course, I had no doubt in your culinary abilities. Who knows what will be next!!! Keep us posted.
Love, Mom XOXO
Wow Ashley, Good-O on the bread, it looks GREAT!
One snippet of advice (from one who struggled mightily on getting bread out of pans!): Spray pan with Baker's Joy (in the aisle with the PAM sprays...haha). It's a wonderful thing.
Can't wait to get home and beg you for this recipe!
(Nice Baby-Bump too!)

Yum yum on the bread! Good job on the first try! I have no idea what a Kitchenaide mixer is but it sounds really cool! My sister made bread for all of her neighbors and Sunday school class friends. She did a really neat wrapping job too, very "green". She used grogery store paper bags and turned them inside out and cut them and used it as wrapping paper. Then she tied a big bow on each one and it looked sooo nice! I will send you a pic! Just a neat idea to pass along unless you want to use a gifts at school.
XOXO-
Becca
